VIRTUAL NETWORK COMPUTING

INTRODUCTION

VNC was developed by ORL research (now AT&T research)  as a platform independant way of controlling GUI (graphical) systems.
It functions somewhat similar to X servers (on Unix) - infact it uses X, and PC Anywhere (on PCs), except that it's designed to be simple and any-any.  Meaning, a Unix Server can view a Windows desktop and vice versa.

There have been MANY ports of the viewer/client to other platforms and a server is available for Unix, Windows and MacOS.
